Please Don’t Say Just Hello in Chat

Provide your full request in the first message in the corporate messaging platforms.

(This entry is unusual, not directly related to MockMotor. But I feel it’s important to share this to make our work life just a tiny bit easier.)

The chat systems - MS Teams, Webex, Slack - are ubiquitous in the workplace now.

However, people are still using the chat like it is a personal messaging:

– Hey dude, are you there?
(10 minutes later) – Yes, I’m here. What’s up?
(Another 20 minutes later) – Can you do this thing?
– Yes, sure. 1 sec… Done!

It took half an hour to complete the request. Yet, if the first person asked to do this thing in their first message, it would be completed in only ten.

Let’s save our colleagues' time!

Please read the NoHello manifesto and share.

I personally added No-Hello wording to my MS Teams message, which appears once someone begins messaging me. I can’t convey how much faster the problem resolution over chat has become!

AI created no part of this text. It isn't the Butlerian Jihad, but it is something anyone could do.
